What Does Illinois Stay-At-Home Order Mean for Collection Agencies?

On Friday, March 20, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker issued a stay-at-home order for the state of Illinois effective March 21, 2020 through April 6, 2020. The text of the official order can be found here: https://www2.illinois.gov/Documents/ExecOrders/2020/ExecutiveOrder-2020-10.pdf.

GLCCA is interpreting the order as follows:

Collection agencies could remain open under the financial institution or professional services category. If the governor hasn’t specifically said that debt collection agencies need to close, then agencies could continue operating until told otherwise.

Agencies will still have to abide by the 10-person maximum gathering limit. If an agency has more than ten employees, it is recommended to have staff work remotely if possible.

We will update this information if more details become available.
